Known in Thai as Krung Thep Mahanakhon(Thai: pronouncedKrung Thepmeaning "City of the Deity") for short, it was a small trading post at the mouth of the Chao Phraya River during the Ayutthaya Kingdom. The Rattanakosin capital is now more formally called "Phra Nakhon", pertaining to the ancient boundaries in the metropolis' core and the name Bangkok now incorporates the urbanbuild-up since the 18th century which has its own public administration and governor.

Formerly the leading empire in Southeast Asia, Cambodia's civilization has both a long and culturally rich historical background. Today, Cambodia occupies only a small corner of the Khmer Empire that extended over a large power and feats of construction, notably the many great temples, including Angkor Wat built by King Suryavarman II and the Bayon Temple by King Jayavarman VII. After that glorious period of unrivaled achievement, indications are that the irrigation network was overworked and the country was the victim of repeated invasions from its neighbors, which cast this great empire into a period of decline from which it never fully recovered. The country became a French protectorate in 1864 and was also occupied by the Japanese for a short while. In 1953, it once again became an independent country. Cambodia was greatly influenced by the French during the colonial period, as were its neighbors in Indochina. As a result, the country has been left with a legacy of many interesting building of distinctive architecture, an attraction for many visitors.

Cambodia has a surface area of 181035 square kilometers, and its population is reaching the figure of 12 million inhabitants, 90 percent of whom are Khmer, the remaning 10 percent being Cham (Khmer Muslim), hill tribes, Chinese and Vietnamese. Ninety-five percent of the people of Cambodia adhere to Thervada Buddhism, which is the official religion of the country. Besides its stunning stone temples, Cambodia is a country of beautiful scenery. The tropical climate and rich alluvial soil are good for the agricultural potential of the country, and its dense rain forests are the home of elephants, tigers and many other wild animals. Its lakes, rivers and many other attractions make Cambodia a full-fledged tourist destination.

Despite the hard times that have confronted the Cambodian people, they are very happy to welcome visitors with warm, heartfelt smile. For good reason Cambodia is known as the "land of million smiles

“So far as I am able to judge, nothing has been left undone, either by man or nature, to make India the most extraordinary country that the sun visits on his rounds. Nothing seems to have been forgotten, nothing overlooked." --Mark Twain, from Following the Equator. It is impossible not to be astonished by India. Nowhere on Earth does humanity present itself in such a dizzying, creative burst of cultures and religions, races and tongues. Every aspect of the country presents itself on a massive, exaggerated scale, worthy in comparison only to the superlative mountains that overshadow it. Perhaps the only thing more difficult than to be indifferent to India would be to describe or understand India completely.

Introduction: In the six decades since the creation of New Delhi as the capital of British India, the city has undergone a sea change. Made in initially to cater to a population of 70,000, the total urban population of Delhi now exceeds 10 million. The city has exploded in all directions beyond the confines of Lutyen's wide, tree-lined avenues, with an exuberance that is characteristically Indian. Delhi is one of the most historic capitals in the world and two of its monuments-the Qutb Minar and Humayun's Tomb-have been declared World Heritage Sites. It is also one of the greenest capitals. For the visitor, it serves as a perfect introduction to the cultural wealth, the complexities and the dynamism of India which Jawaharlal Nehru likened to "an ancient palimpsest' on which layer upon layer of thought and reverie has been inscribed".Delhi has some of the finest museums in the country. Its boutiques and shopping arcades offer access to a wealth of traditional and contemporary crafts from all over the country. It has specialty restaurants to please the gourmet, the open parks and gardens ablaze with flowers and in the winter months particularly, a variety of cultural events. Its many-layered existence is tantalizing and can entice the curious traveler into a fascinating journey of discovery

To the lover of art and to the traveler seeking the wonders of the world, Agra is the goal of a pilgrimage to the creative best: the Agra Fort and the Taj Mahal. The architectural splendor of the mausoleums, the fort and the palaces in Agra is a vivid reminder of the opulence of the legendary Mughal Empire for nearly a hundred years from 1564.
That said, Agra city itself can be an intense experience, even for seasoned India hands. Years of corruption and political neglect have reduced its infrastructure to a shambles: filthy water and open sewers are ubiquitous, power cuts routine, and the traffic pollution appalling (some mornings you can barely see the sun through the fog of fumes). Moreover, as a tourist you'll have to contend with often overwhelming crowds at the major monuments, absurdly high admission fees, and some of Asia's most persistent touts commission merchants and rickshaw-wallahs. Don't, however, let all this put you off. Although it's possible to see Agra on a day-trip from Delhi, the Taj alone deserves so much more - a fleeting visit would miss the subtleties of its many moods, as the light changes from sunrise to sunset - while the warren of old streets and bazaars around it offers glimpses of an Indo-Muslim way of life that, in many respects, has altered little since the time of the Moghuls.
