Great news for tourism industry in Nepal!! Australia-based MIT Group Holdings is soon starting construction of a five-star hotel in Kathmandu.

Prime Minister Sushil Koirala is scheduled to lay foundation stone for Sheraton Kathmandu Hotel amid a function on Saturday.

According to officials of MIT Group Holdings, construction would begin after three months.

The hotel is being built with an investment of Rs 8 billion at Kantipath (near Keshar Mahal). MIT Group Holdings is promoted by Non-Resident Nepalis (NRN) President Shesh Ghale. Starwood Hotels of Singapore, which owns the Sheraton brand, will look after the operation and management of the hotel.

sheraton-hotel “We have already finalized the design of the hotel. Construction works will begin within two or three months,” Ghale said, adding that the hotel will being operation from February 2018.

The 17-storied luxury hotel spread over 14 ropani in the heart of Kathmandu will have 213 guest rooms and suites. The hotel will have two-storied parking and guestrooms in 13 floors. It will have facilities like health club, spa, fitness center and swimming pool. Customers can taste different local and international cuisines at the hotel´s in-house restaurant. To keep the customers engaged, the hotel will also have an in-house retail shopping center.

For weddings and seminars, the hotel will have a banquet hall with a capacity of seating 1,000 people. Ghale claimed that it would be the largest banquet hall in the country. Similarly, there will be two other seminar halls, three meeting rooms and a board room.

According to Ghale, the building will be constructed using ´Post Tensioned Concrete´ technology which makes the building strong and safe. He claimed that this is the first time that the technology is being used in Kathmandu.

Ghale said they would focus more on quality rather than getting returns earlier. “We have not expected to get any return in the first 15 years of operation,” he said, adding that they would get return before 15 years if the hotel received average occupancy of 60 percent.

The hotel will employ 450 people when it begins operation. Ghale said around 50,000 would be employed in the construction phase.

The entry of Sheraton, which has presence in 70 countries and operates around 400 hotels, will help to promote Nepali tourism industry and also bring in quality tourists,” Ghale said, adding, “Sheraton is expanding its presence massively in India and China and we can benefit from this by attracting the tourists, who visit India and China, by providing service of the same quality here.”
