Manaslu Expedition

Printer Version Page

Mount Manaslu is the eight highest mountain in the world and is located at an altitude of 8,156m from the sea level in the Mansiri Himalaya range of Gorkha district in western Nepal. The name Manaslu has been derived from the Sanskrit word Manasa, meaning “intellect” or "soul". Manaslu Himal, as it is popularly known among trekkers, provides views of the snow-covered mountains of the Himalayas and allows close interaction with the different ethnic groups who live in hill villages scattered along the trek route. The peak was first climbed by a Japanese expedition in 1956.

There are many routes to Mount Manaslu mountaineering as the long ridge Manaslu base camp and valley glacier offer feasibility to approach from different directions. However, South Face is considered to be the most difficult. This mountain expedition begins from Gorkha to Samagaon and the return route is via Larky La/Larky pass trekking to the Annapurna classic route, thus making the expedition one of the memorable.
