Cho Oyu Expedition

Printer Version Page

Mount Cho Oyu is the sixth highest mountain in the world at an altitude of 8,201m from sea the level. It is located in Khumbu/Everest region and borders China to the north. Cho Oyu Expedition is a classic Himalayan climb and is considered to be one of the easiest for above 8,000m peak. The climb is non-technical (without big snowfield), of little objective danger and made via its Northwest Ridge.  It was first climbed by S. Moechler, H. Tichy and P.Dawa Lama in 1954.

If supported by the weather, view from the summit plateau is breathtaking. In a blink of an eye, you can capture the entire panorama of Everest, Lhotse, Nuptse, Chamlang, Ama Dablam and other peaks of Khumbu region.

Cho Oyu expedition has become a familiar landmark to climbers ascending Everest's north face. Just west of Cho Oyu is the Nangpa La, a 19,000-foot glacier pass, the main trade route between Khumbu’s Sherpas and Tibet. Cho Oyu's proximity to the Nangpa La has earned it the distinction among some climbers as being the easiest 8,000-meter peak.
