Rara Lake Trek

Rara Lake is the largest and deepest lake of Nepal. It lies in Mugu District in far-western Nepal and falls under the Rara National park. The lake is also known as Mahendra Daha and lies at an altitude of 3,062m above the sea level. Rara covers an area of 16 square kilometers.
Rara Lake trekking trail is an offbeat track and offers glimpses of culture and scenic views very different from other parts of Nepal. The trek offers a dramatic display of clear high altitude lakes mingled with pine, spruce and juniper forests as well as breath taking views of the snow capped Himalayan peaks. This area is covered by Rara National Park, which is the habitat of hundreds of animals and birds. It is considered to be one of the finest parks in the world; and abounds in a coniferous forest making it an ideal habitat to the endangered Red Panda, Musk Deer, Himalayan Black Bear, Leopard, Jackal, Yellow-throated Martin, Wild Dog, Wild Boar, Common Langur, Rhesus Macaque and Common Otter. During winter, the park is flocked with a great variety of birds like Cots, Great Crested Grebe, Black Necked Grebe, Red Crested Pochard, Mallard, Common Teal, Merganser and Gulls.

Day 01: Arrive Kathmandu
Upon your arrival in Kathmandu, our Fishtail representative and driver will meet you at the Tribhuvan International Airport and escort you to your designated hotel. The representative will help you to check into your hotel. In the hotel, you will be briefed about your daily activities during the trek.
Day 02: Sightseeing in Kathmandu valley 
Kathmandu valley is the historical and cultural heart of Nepal and has been a popular destination for tourists ever since Nepal opened its doors to visitors. The valley offers you a wonderful mix of Hinduism, Tibetan Buddhism and Western influence. In the morning, after breakfast, you will visit renowned and one of the largest Hindu temple of Pashupatinath, Bouddhanath Stupa, and Swoyambhunath Stupa. After lunch, you will visit Kathmandu Durbar Square and Patan Durbar Square.
Day 03: Fly to Nepalgunj 
Today you will board a flight from Kathmandu to Nepalgunj that approximately takes one hour. The journey is best described by the scenic views of great Himalayan ranges of Nepal.
Day 04: Fly to Jumla (2,370m)
Today, you will board a flight again from Nepalgunj to Jumla, which will take about 35 minutes. During your flight and stay in Jumla, you can enjoy the scenic views of Sisne Himal, Dudu Kundari Himal and other unnamed mountains.
Day 05: Trek to Patmara (2,920m)
From Jumla to Patmara, it takes about six hours of walk. The initial part of the trail is through flat routes and after some distance the route takes steep ascent up to Patmara. En route you will pass through pine forests, green hills and picturesque villages. These villages are mostly inhabited by Chhetris. Patmara is relatively a big village that has chortens, prayer flags, Mani walls and temples dedicated to Hindu Gods and Goddess. People living here practice either Buddhism or Hinduism.
Day 06: Trek to Bhargaon (2,690m)
This day you will trek from Patmara to Bhargaon and the journey will take about six hours. Firstly, you will trek through steep ascent path for two hours. Then you will cross Kharila pass (3,050m) and the trail goes down gently until you reach Nyawer. Nyawer is a small village with terraces, mud roof houses and mainly inhabited by Chhetria. From here, your trail ascends gently crossing suspension bridge over Nyawer Khola to Bhargaon.
Day 07: Trek to Pina (2,380m)
Leaving Bhargaon, you will trek to Pina and it will take approximately six hours. You will make a gentle ascent until you cross a suspension bridge. Again you will trek through an ascent path and reach the check point of Rara National Park at Bhulbule. The trail upto Ghurchi La Pass (3,460m) is a steep ascent. En route, you will enjoy forests covered with pine, oak, juniper, rhododendron, bamboo, wild animals and local birds. 
Day 08: Trek to Gumgarhi (2,580m)
Today, firstly, you will cross a wooden bridge over Jhari Khola (stream) and then continue along an ascent path. On the way, you can observe musk deer, pheasant in pine, juniper, oak, and rhododendron forests and other natural vegetation. To make your trip more exciting, you will come across several villages rich in terraces, monasteries, chortens, prayer flags, Mani walls and people following Tibetan life style. The final destination for the day Gumgarhi is yet another village mostly inhabited by Sherpa, Gurung and other ethnic communities.
Day 09: Trek to Rara Lake (3,060m)
The path from Gumgarhi to Rara Lake is mostly downhill and goes uphill only for some distance. You will come across villages and forests on the way. This day you can enjoy the sight of magnificent Rara Lake. 
Day 10: Explore Rara Lake
Today you will spend the entire day exploring around beautiful Rara Lake and taking rest.
Day 11: Trek to Jhari (2,500m)
Jhari is a small village where you can enjoy monasteries, chortens, prayer flags and Tibetan style houses. You will have to trek through steep descent path following forests, wooden bridge over Jhari Khola and villages to reach the destination. The settlement is mainly inhabited by Gurung who closely follow Tibetan lifestyle.
Day 12: Trek to Bhargaon (2,690m)
Leaving Jhari you will head towards Bhargaon village mainly dominated by Chhetri communities. The walk will be about six hours. The route in the beginning moves downward and after some distance turns uphill until you cross Ghurchi La Pass (3,460m). En route, you will pass through forests covered with pine, oak, rhododendron and juniper, green hills and several villages.
Day 13: Trek to Patmara (2,920m)
Today you will follow the steep descend path leading to Khari La Pass. This is a village with Tibetan style houses, apple and cherry orchards and terraces where local farmers grow wheat, buck wheat, maize and green vegetables. From here, the route will move through gently flat land all the way to Patmara. 
Day 14: Trek to Jumla (2,370m)
Today you will proceed to Jumla, which approximately takes five hours. You will trail through steep descent path all the way passing splendid views of green hill, forests, villages and ridges.
Day 15: Fly to Kathmandu via Nepalganj
Today in the early morning you will board a flight to Nepalganj and take a transfer flight to Kathmandu. The entire day in the capital city is free for some shopping and relaxation.
Day 16: Depart Kathmandu
After checking out of the hotel, our representative will take you to the international airport for your flight towards onward destination.
