The Upper Mustang Trek, often known as Mustang Trek, is one of the most popular, mysterious but interesting and charming destinations in Nepal. The northern Kagbeni village is known as upper Mustang and has significant Tibetan influences. The major attractions of Mustang trekking are ancient Tibetan villages, rare medieval Buddhist arts, the exotic culture, traditions, languages, architectures, unique beauty of the vast high valley, colorful stratified rock formation and the Himalayan desert with lifetime Himalayan and cultural experiences.
 
The panoramic views of great Himalayas like Annapurna, Gangapurna, Machhapuchhre, Dhaulagiri and others peaks are some other interesting charms of this trek.

Day 01: Arrive Kathmandu
Upon your arrival in Kathmandu, our Fishtail representative and driver will meet you at the Tribhuvan International Airport and escort you to your designated hotel. The representative will help you to check into your hotel. In the hotel, you will be briefed about your daily activities during the trek.
 
Day 02: Sightseeing in Kathmandu valley 
Kathmandu valley is the historical and cultural heart of Nepal and has been a popular destination for tourists ever since Nepal opened its doors to visitors. The valley offers you a wonderful mix of Hinduism, Tibetan Buddhism and Western influence. In the morning, after breakfast, you will visit renowned and one of the largest Hindu temple of Pashupatinath, Bouddhanath Stupa, and Swoyambhunath Stupa. After lunch, you will visit Kathmandu Durbar Square and Patan Durbar Square.
 
Day 03: Fly/drive to Pokhara and a Half Day Sightseeing in Pokhara
In the early morning, after breakfast, you will be driven to Pokhara city, 200 km west from Kathmandu. It takes 5-6 hours on a tourist vehicle or you can take a flight as well. You will come across beautiful forests, deep gorges and Nepali villages en-route. Upon reaching Pokhara, you will have half day guided tour in the city. You will visit Fewa Lake where you can enjoy boating. If the weather is clear, you can see the reflection of Mount Machhapuchhre in the lake. The lake also houses Barahi Temple located in the middle of the lake. Other interesting destinations would be Devi’s Fall, Gupteshwor Cave, Bindabasini Temple etc. This day, you will be accommodated in Pokhara.
 
Day 04: Fly to Jomsom (2,713m) and Trek to Kagbeni (2,800m)
From Pokhara you will board an early morning flight to Jomsom. Even on the aircraft, you will be enjoying splendid views of Annapurna and Dhaulagiri mountains. After reaching Jomsom and resting for a while, you will move towards Kagbeni. Kagbeni is a traditional town with medieval looks and interesting alleys and used to be the ancient Nepal – Tibet trade route. 
 
Day 05: Trek to Chele (3,050m)
From Kagbeni, you will follow the path leading to the riverbank of upstream Kaligandaki. During the walk you will get picturesque views of mountains, forests and landscapes.  Continuing the journey (both uphill and downhill) for some time, you will reach Tangbe. From there, you will move forward to Chele village. 
 
Day 06: Trek to Geling (3,510m)
This day you will have to walk on steep trails on an arid desert. On the way you will witness several canyons, interesting chortens passes and the Samar village. Finally you will reach Geling for the overnight.
 
Day 07: Trek to Tsarang (3,560m)
Today’s trek will be relatively easier. The trail gently goes up by crossing the interesting passes, steel bridge at Tangmar River, gray and red cliffs and Mani walls. Now, you will have to walk downhill to reach the Tsarang village by crossing the pass at 3600m. Tsarang houses five huge stories of Dzong and Red Gompa and collection of Statues and Thankas as well. 
 
Day 08: Trek to Lo-Manthang (3,800m)
You will spend the part of the morning exploring the interesting village of Tsarang and its large monastery, before setting out for Lo Manthang. For Lo-Manthang, first you will have to climb gently above the valley to a large isolated Chorten that marks the boundary between Tsarang and Lo-Manthang. The highland route offers dramatic views of Lo Manthang and the Tsarang Valley amidst the snow-clad peaks in the background.
 
Day 09: Rest Day in Lo-Manthang
Today you will spend your entire day taking a complete rest for acclimatizing to altitude, contemplating and planning for upcoming trips and getting habituated to your trekking destinations. If you want you can hike around Lo-Manthang.
 
Day 10: Explore Lo-Manthang
This day will be very interesting, as you will explore the surrounding areas of Lo- Manthang village. Firstly, you will visit Namgyal Gompa. Namgyal Gompa, situated on a hilltop, serves as an important monastery for the local community and also as a local court. After visiting Namgyal Gompa, you will continue the tour to Tingkhar, the last main village to the northwest of Lo-Mangthang. Or you may have another option to visit the Tall Champa Lakhang – “God House", the red Thugchen Gompa, Chyodi Gompa and the Entrance Hall which are some other major attractions of this small town. To enhance the architectural beauty of the place, there is a magnificent four - storey King's palace as well. 
 
Day 11: Trek to Ghami (3,490m)
Today you will descend from Lo Manthang and make headway to the village of Ghami as a last destination for the day. It is a lovely village with lots of barley farmland and white washed houses.
 
Day 12: Trek to Samar (3,150m)
Leaving Ghami, you will follow a narrow winding path crossing a small stream until you reach Samar via Geling. En route, you can enjoy good view of Nilgiri Mountain, deserted landscapes, Tibetan style villages and their life style, terraced farming and natural vegetation. 
 
Day 13: Trek to Kagbeni (2,800m)
From Samar to Kagbeni, you will walk about seven hours first following a descending path and then cross a suspension bridge over Kaligandaki River to reach Chhuksang. Continuing the trek, you will walk along the bank of the Kaligandaki River with amidst natural vegetation and apple orchards. 
 
Day 14: Trek to Jomsom (2,713m)
Today you will trek to Jomsom, which generally takes about three hours. The trail first passes through the bank of the Kaligandaki River and then through Eklebhatti. The trail is windy in the early afternoons. From there, you will head towards Jomsom – headquarter of Mustang, where you can have access to the Internet and banking facilities.
 
Day 15: Fly to Pokhara and Fly/drive to Kathmandu
After breakfast you can check in the Jomsom airport to fly back to Pokhara: a 30-minutes flight between the gorges of two huge mountains, Annapurna and Dhaulagiri. Upon arrival at Pokhara airport, you will either take transfer flight to Kathmandu or will be driven to Kathmandu via tourist vehicle. You can enjoy the free time at Kathmandu shopping and relaxing.
 
Day 16: Depart Kathmandu
After checking out of the hotel, our representative will take you to the international airport for your flight towards onward. If you want to continue your stay in Nepal for short tours i.e. National parks, rafting, mountain biking, hiking, etc., please do let us know. We will be proudly serving your needs.
