Kanchenjunga North Base Camp Trek

Printer Version Page

The northern side of the Kanchenjunga is particularly remote and takes almost two weeks of trekking to get to the base camp at Pang Pema (5,100m).The trek offers fantastic views of Himalayan massifs such as Makalu, Chamling, Everest, Jannu and the Kanchenjunga along the way. The area has an abundance of wildlife including Musk Deer and Blue Sheep.
The crossing of high passes requires good weather as the trail is sometimes blocked by snow and heavy rains causing landslides that wipe out the huge sections of trails.  The trek is relatively strenuous and takes 27 days to complete. Like South Base Camp trek, here too the trek starts upon reaching Sukhetar, Taplejung by air.
