Lower Dolpo Trek

Lower Dolpo Trek takes trekkers to the trail that continues above a gorge along with a waterfall until you reach the Buddhist village of Ringmo. From this tiny village you will enter the beautiful Shey Phoksundo National Park housing Shey Phoksundo Lake at (3,600m). This lake does not contain aquatic life. The trek crosses two high passes of Baga La (5,070m) and Numa La (5,190m) into Do Tarap village (4,040m) – a region inhabited by people practicing polyandry and pre-Buddhist religion called "Bon Po".

Day 01: Arrive Kathmandu
Upon your arrival in Kathmandu, our Fishtail representative and driver will meet you at the Tribhuvan International Airport and escort you to your designated hotel. The representative will help you to check into your hotel. In the hotel, you will be briefed about your daily activities during the trek.
 
Day 02: Sightseeing in Kathmandu valley 
Kathmandu valley is the historical and cultural heart of Nepal and has been a popular destination for tourists ever since Nepal opened its doors to visitors. The valley offers you a wonderful mix of Hinduism, Tibetan Buddhism and Western influence. In the morning, after breakfast, you will visit renowned and one of the largest Hindu temple of Pashupatinath, Bouddhanath Stupa, and Swoyambhunath Stupa. After lunch, you will visit Kathmandu Durbar Square and Patan Durbar Square.
 
Day 03: Fly to Nepalganj 
Today you will board a flight from Kathmandu to Nepalganj that approximately takes about one hour. The journey is best described by the scenic views of great Himalayan ranges of Nepal.
 
Day 04:  Fly to Jhupal (2,320m) and trek to Dunai (2,150m) 
After breakfast, you will take a flight to Jhupal, which takes about 45 minutes over the high mountains amidst the views of Annapurna and Dhaulagiri peaks to the north. The trek will then begin through the terraced fields to the Bheri River and the narrow gorge and upon walking for 2 – 3 hours, you will reach Dunai which is the administrative headquarter of the Dolpo region.
 
Day 05: Trek to Tarakot (2,850m) 
Today your trek will continue along the southern bank of the river heading upstream on a good trail. On the way you, will come across deep gorges, hanging bridges and isolated villages. Tarakot is an old fortress town built by the local people as Dzong or fort. The village stands on a hillock to the south of Bheri River, which at one time was supervised collection center of tolls for the trading caravans. We will stay in the camp overnight.
 
Day 06:  Trek to Lahini (3,200m)
From Tarakot, you will follow the path to upstream Tarap Chu River, crossing the bridge and crossing the same river twice. The famed Sandul Gompa lies farther east from Tarakot and at the junction of Barbung khola and Tarup Chu River. The path leads through the terraced farms and rural villages.  After few ups and downs, you will finally make descend to reach your last destination for today, Lahini where we will set up our camp.
 
Day 07:  Trek to Nawarpani 
Leaving Lahini, you will continue your trek to Nawarpani. The walk is quite exciting as the valley becomes narrow gorge and in some places you can jump from one side to another. You will then descend to Chyugur Khola and finally reach Nawarpani.
 
Day 08: Trek to Do Tarap (4,040m)
From Nawarpani, you will head to Kamattarka at the confluence of the Tarap Chu and Lang Khola. After few hours of walk, you will leave the narrow gorge and from here the path leads just above tree lines for juniper bush and wild rose, typical of dry inner Himalayan valleys. Another three or more hours of walk and you will reach the village of Do Tarap surrounded by an irregular stonewall. In this Valley both Bon Po and Chaiba sects reside together. Tarap is also inhabited mostly by Magars who have lived here for many generations, and few Tibetans as well.
 
Day 09:  Rest Day in Do Tarap
You will spend your entire day taking complete rest, contemplating and planning for upcoming trips and getting habituated to your trekking destinations. If you wish, you can also hike around the Do Tarap and visit Buddhist Gompas– Bon Gompa and Nyingmapa Gompa, getting familiarized with local people as well.
 
Day 10: Trek to Numa La Base Camp (5,190m) 
This day you will move towards Numa La Base Camp. Your trekking trail follows the path along the upper Tarap valley with plain lush verdant grass on both the sides of a river, which is completely different from other parts of inner Dolpo. Tarap is certainly a dream valley with vast plains in high mountains. Finally the trek for the day will end upon reaching Numa La Base Camp.
 
Day 11: Trek to Pelung Tang
From Numa La Base Camp, you will have a relatively long and difficult trek ahead. Firstly, you will cross Numa La pass at 5,190m.The track leads to steep climb all the way to the top ridge of Numa la with great views of surrounding landscapes. This is the place where you can have an incredible panoramic view of the barren mountains of Dolpo up to the Dhaulagiri Himalayan ranges. After getting to the top of Numa La you will descend to Pelung Tang. 
 
Day 12: Trek to Dajok Tang 
After breakfast, your trek starts with a steep climb to reach the top of Baga-la ridge at 5,070m.The ridge offers fantastic views of the surrounding landscapes and distant snowcapped peaks of Kanjirowa Himal range. After a glorious moment at the pass, almost three hours of downhill walk will take you to Dajok Tang.
 
Day 13: Trek to Ringmo (3,600m)
From Dajok Tang, your journey will continue through the pine forest. Upon leaving the forest,vegetation changes to pasture fields and alpine shrubs through most of the way to Ringmo.
 
Day 14: Rest Day and Hike to Phoksundo Lake 
Today you will spend the entire day taking complete rest, planning for forthcoming trips and getting habituated to the trekking destinations. However, if you wish, you can hike around the Shey Phoksundo Lake, Tibetan monasteries and Ringmo.
 
Day 15: Trek to Shyanta 
This day you will trek downhill to Chepka. From Chepka the trail follows the massive overhanging rock. On the way you can find important medicinal minerals. The route then passes through the villages, before climbing to Shyanta.
 
Day16:  Trek to Jhupal (2,320m)
From Shyanta, you will continue the journey following the trail gently sloping upwards. You will then move towards Jhupal via Sulighat. From top of the ridge, you can have the most spectacular views of the mountains and Jhupal. Upon reaching Jhupal, you can spend afternoon exploring the busy town market.
 
Day 17: Fly to Kathmandu via Nepalganj
Today you will be boarding two flights. First you will board a flight to Nepalganj to catch transfer flight to Kathmandu. The entire day in the capital is free for some shopping and relaxation.
 
Day 18: Depart Kathmandu
After checking out of the hotel, our representative will take you to the international airport for your flight home. If you want to continue your stay in Nepal for short tours i.e. National parks, rafting, mountain biking, hiking, etc., please do let us know. We will be proudly serving your needs.
