Yala Peak Climbing

Printer Version Page

Yala Peak (5,732m) is another famous trekking destination located in the Langtang region of Nepal, about 19 miles away from Kathmandu valley. Yala peak soars right next to Tibetan border and offers outstanding views of Mount Shishapangma (8,046m), Langtang Lirung (7,246m), Gang Chempo (6,388m) and Dorje Lakpa.

Yala Peak climbing is best for beginner adventure seekers, climbers and those who are constrained by time limits. As Yala Peak climbing is non – technical, previous climbing experience is not required. However, outdoor experiences and average level of fitness are the prerequisite criteria.

Besides panoramic Himalayan views of snow-capped mountains, other major attractions of the area are beautiful lush forests and its wildlife like Red Panda, Leopards, Musk deer, Himalayan Thar and different species of birds and butterflies. One can also observe and explore life styles and traditions of culturally rich Tamang and Sherpa communities.

Langtang region is conserved and protected as a Langtang National Park and also houses sacred Lake Gosainkunda at an altitude of 4310m. More than 25,000 Hindus and Buddhists pilgrims come to bath in the lake during the month of August - during Janai Purnima (one of the popular festival of Hindus). According to Hindu mythology, Lord Shiva himself created this high altitude lake when he pierced a glacier with his trident to obtain the water to quench this thirst after consuming poison gathered from the churning of the oceans.
