Naya Kanga Peak Climbing

Printer Version Page

Naya Kanga Peak (5,122m) is another popular mountaineering peak located in Langtang region, 19 miles away from Kathmandu valley bordering with Tibet. It is also known as Ganja La Chuli. Easy access to the Langtang region and availability of several scattered snow peaks for acclimatization makes this region an ideal destination for mountaineers. Naya kanga Peak climbing is non – technical and doesn’t require prior climbing experiences. However outdoor sporting and average level of fitness are the prerequisite criteria.

The summit of Naya Kanga also offers outstanding views of Mount Shishapangma (8,046m), Langtang Lirung (7,246m), Pemthang Ri, Langshisa Ri (6,370m), Gang Chempo (6,388m) and Dorje Lakpa. Rising to the West is Ganja La (5,122m). The trail to Naya Kanga follows the route of Langtang trek.

Besides, the route provides wonderful trekking and hiking trail for nature and wildlife lovers. Beautiful lush forests and its wildlifelike Red Panda, Leopards, Musk deer, Himalayan Thar and different species of birds and butterflies act as a cherry on the top of the cake. One can also observe and explore life styles and traditions of culturally rich Tamang and Sherpa communities.

Langtang region is conserved and protected as a Langtang National Park and also houses sacred Lake Gosainkunda at an altitude of 4,310m. More than 25,000 Hindus and Buddhists pilgrims come to take a dip in the lake during the month of August - during Janai Purnima (one of the popular festival of Hindus). According to Hindu mythology, Lord Shiva himself created this high altitude lake when he pierced a glacier with his trident to obtain the water to quench this thirst after consuming poison gathered from the churning of the oceans.
